All summer there has been claims of reported interest in Papiss Cisse from clubs in Turkey.
Today sees Turkish media organisation Fanatik report that Galatasaray have contacted Newcastle and been told that the striker is available.
The report comes on the same day that Papiss Cisse has been dropped by United for the match against Man Utd at Old Trafford.
Aleksandar Mitrovic has been given his first Premier League start after Cisse put in a dismal performance at Swansea, although he was in good company last Saturday.
Fantatik say that Galatasaray are prepared to pay 5m euros (approx £3.6m) for the Senegalese striker and the perception amongst fans is that Mike Ashley would be more than happy to get one of his biggest earners off the wage bill, particularly as the striker turned 30 this summer.
Steve McClaren said at his press conference on Friday that the club weren’t chasing any other deals after Florian Thauvin’s arrivals, though you would imagine it could be a different story if Papiss Cisse did leave.
Even if Riviere was fit there wouldn’t be fan confidence in him filling in if Mitrovic wasn’t available for any reason, though McClaren has shown faith in Perez by recalling him against Manchester United in the absence of Moussa Sissoko.
The signing of Thauvin also gives another option of an extra player who can play in a forward position, even though he is clearly not a target man, which is also the case with Perez.
