Charlie Austin reacts to transfer talk after he’s missing from QPR squad
QPR are playing their latest pre season friendly on Sunday afternoon against Atalanta and Charlie Austin was missing from both the starting eleven and the bench.
Instantly rumours spread that a move was on at last but Austin himself has explained the reason why.
Using his Twitter account, the striker said:
“Only trained twice this week that is why I’m not playing today don’t panic.”
QPR themselves, stated that Austin misses today’s match through injury and it is indeed only the last two days when he has trained.
Charlie Austin’s message comes against a backdrop of numerous claims that Newcastle United are amongst the clubs who are still chasing the player, with indeed a number of media claiming yesterday that the club were in ‘advanced talks’ to buy the striker.
However, after yesterday’s match at St James Park, Newcastle’s Head Coach was very open in confirming that there had been zero contact between United and QPR throughout the summer.
Steve McClaren:
“There has been a lot of talk about that throughout the weeks but we have not been in contact with QPR.
“And they have not with us, so no, that is just a name that circulates and has been going around.”
