Yoan Gouffran thinks that the ideas and tactics Steve McClaren is introducing are perfect for this Newcastle squad.

The French striker/midfielder saying that the new Head Coach wants them to pass the ball and he thinks that’s a ‘very good idea’.

Not sure exactly what this says about Alan Pardew’s tactics but I would love to hear the players describe what that was like…

A physical game was also ideal Gouffran believes, with Club Atlas getting stuck in on Tuesday night, with Steve McClaren telling his players at the break that they had to stop standing off them and fight fire with fire.

No surprise then to see a better showing by Newcastle in the second half, although not enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat.

Always hard to tell with pre season games but we all hope that Steve McClaren can get more out of the current set of players than Pardew and Carver could.

Yoan Gouffran talking to the official club website:

“There were some strong tackles and bad kicks but it was good for us, because the Premier League is the same, very tough and physical.

“It is the same type of game and helps get us ready for the new season in England, pre season is all about finding fitness and doing the right things on the pitch. We feel better day after day, week after week and getting fitter, some played 70 minutes tonight and we feel good.”

Different but good:

“It’s different (life under Steve McClaren) but good, they (coaching staff) want to play well and want us to show good things all the time.

“He (McClaren) wants us to pass the ball and that will suit the players we have. It is a very good idea.”
