The squad flew out of Newcastle Airport earlier today for their pre season tour of America.
Altogether 23 players were on the flight, with new signing Georginio Wijnaldum set to join them over in the States.
The 24 man squad was named as:
Goalkeepers: Karl Darlow, Freddie Woodman, Tim Krul,
Defenders: Fabricio Coloccini, Curtis Good, Jamaal Lascelles, Massadio Haidara, Daryl Janmaat, Steven Taylor, Mike Williamson
Midfielders: Rolando Aarons, Vurnon Anita, Gael Bigirimana, Gabriel Obertan, Jack Colback, Siem de Jong, Shane Ferguson, Yoan Gouffran, Moussa Sissoko, Georginio Wijnaldum (joining the squad later)
Strikers: Adam Armstrong, Papiss Cisse, Ayoze Perez, Emmanuel Riviere
Also of interest to a lot of fans are the players not making the trip, with the club explaining the absence of six of those who haven’t travelled:
‘Rob Elliot, Paul Dummett, Remy Cabella, Cheick Tiote, Mehdi Abeid, Sylvain Marveaux are not on the tour as they all work their way back to fitness on Tyneside following injuries.’
This leaves the following contracted players:
Haris Vuckic, Lubomir Satka, Olivier Kemen, Kevin Mbabu, Adam Gilliead, Callum Roberts, Dan Barlaser, Jamie Sterry, Tom Heardman, Macauley Gillesphey, Liam Smith
Of that last list, Olivier Kemen is currently playing for France Under 19s at the European Championships in Greece, whilst the writing appears on the wall for both Haris Vuckic and Lubomir Satka.
No real surprise for Vuckic but if Satka is rated as having any chance then surely he would have made the trip, turning 20 in December he looks to have no future at the club.
As for the six said to be recovering from injury, I think this is clearly the case with Dummett.
However, with some or all of the other five I can see movement out of the club.
Cheick Tiote played against Gateshead on Friday night so it has to be questionable as to him missing the trip, whilst there has been a lot of speculation surrounding Remy Cabella – with a swap deal for Florian Thauvin suggested by some.
With Abeid, Elliot and Marveaux it would be no surprise to see them on their way, though a number of Newcastle fans will still feel that Mehdi Abeid could build on the promise of a couple of stand out displays last season
