Despite being the only player to start both games after the return from America, Ayoze Perez turned in a tireless display last night which put some of his teammates to shame.

On the occasion of his 22nd birthday, the Spanish striker at least got some personal reward for his endeavours, scoring Newcastle United’s consolation goal in the 75th minute.

Unfortunately, United were already trailing by two goals, with York City scoring two in four first half minutes as the Newcastle defending once again left a lot to be desired.

One other positive though is that it looks like we may at last have the beginnings of a plan on how to take corners.

Siem de Jong scored from one on Sunday at Bramall Lane after a flick on by Papiss Cisse, whilst Wednesday night saw Ayoze Perez score a similar effort after Lascelles (I think) helped the left wing corner on.
