Renzo Contratto has ruled out any potential departure for Davide Santon from Inter Milan.

The former Newcastle full-back’s agent says ‘there is no doubt’ Santon will still be at the San Siro for the coming season.

Despite having arrived at Inter only six months ago, recent days had seen concentrated speculation that the defender was going to leave, with Watford and AS Roma the likely destinations.

Renzo Contratto now saying in an interview with FC Inter News:

“A sale to Watford? There isn’t much to say or discuss.

“Davide is 100% sure to remain at Inter, of that there is no doubt.”

The comments from his agent followed earlier ones that the player himself made when reports of a potential departure first started circulating, using his Facebook page, Davide Santon said:

“Hello guys, I read all your comments and want to say I know nothing about all this (moving to Watford). I want to stay at Inter.

“Your comments were really very pleasing and I embrace you all with affection. Forza Inter!”

As for Newcastle United, neither Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa or Davide Santon have been replaced as yet, never mind any squad strengthening taking place.

The second half of last season proved once again just how weak United are in defence, both in terms of quality and quantity, something which almost proved the final factor in getting Newcastle relegated.

With Newcastle United’s 63 goals conceded in the Premier League last season only being ‘bettered’ by QPR, the need for quality signings has never been more desperate.

United still relying on the three centre-backs who were at the club in the Championship season of 2009/10.
