In recent days, Davide Santon used his Facebook page to dismiss talk of a move to Watford, stating that he knew nothing about the press speculation.
However, now talk of a potential reunion with Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has been given a push by the Italian defender’s agent.
Over in Italy, Claudio Vigorelli has told ‘TeleRadioStereo’ that AS Roma are a ‘prestigious club’ and it could be an ‘important stage’ for Davide Santon.
“He (Davide Santon) rediscovered his form after a few months of difficulty due to fitness problems.
“Talk of Roma? It would be an important stage for him, it is a prestigious club.”
Shortly after arriving at Inter on loan, Santon was instantly playing week in week out, though he lost his place in the final stages of the season.
However, the player put that down to the after effects of playing too many games in a short space of time after being injured and then overlooked at Newcastle.
With his appearances for Inter Milan having triggered a permanent transfer for a fee close to £3m, there is potential for the club to turn a quick profit if they decide Santon is surplus to requirements.
Inter are spending big this summer as they look to bounce back from a mid-table finish whereas AS Roma and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa ended up second and have Champions League football to look forward to…and to offer potential recruits.
Ashley Cole started last season as first choice for Roma at left-back but lost his place and was almost completely ignored for the second half of the campaign.
With Champions League cash to play with, AS Roma could certainly afford to buy Davide Santon, the question being whether he prefers that or moving to Watford, or indeed fighting for his place at Inter.
