Sunday night has seen Derby County release an official statement, confirming that Paul Simpson will leave as from 1 July.
Simpson was first team coach under Steve McClaren and has been widely tipped to follow him to St James Park.
Tonight’s announcement leaves the way for Newcastle United’s new coaching set-up to be officially announced, with last Thursday bringing news that Ian Cathro is also expected to come into NUFC, having left his position as number two at Valencia for ‘family reasons’.
Sunday has also brought news that Phil Neville, who was allegedly approached by Steve McClaren and knocked him back, has taken up that vacant number two role at Valencia in place of Cathro.
Hopefully this means that a full coaching staff team will be on hand on Wednesday when pre season training begins.
No players signed as yet but you have to start somewhere!
