A brilliant day out at Wembley (if only…) saw North Shields crown a memorable day with a top notch performance.

The Tyneside outfit did it the hard way, after falling behind to Glossop North End, Gareth Bainbridge equalised with a near post header.

Extra time was needed and Adam Forster was the match winner, a great run and cross from the right ended with a cool finish at the back post.

North Shields lifted the FA Vase in front of a 9,764 crowd, making it their second success at Wembley after the famous 1969 FA Amateur Cup victory.

Many Newcastle United fans opted for the chance of a trip to Wembley rather than the relegation fight against West Brom and were suitably rewarded.

A great day for North Shields and the travelling fans, who all did the north east proud.
