Newcastle star named European player of the week

Jonas Gutierrez has been revealed as the European player of the week for the period 19 May – 25 may.

Against West Ham it featured a stellar performance by the Argentine international, with an assist and a goal in the 2-0 relegation saver against the Hammers.

On top of that, Jonas also made three key passes and carried out eight successful dribbles.

Every match in all the major European Leagues is automatically analysed by whoscored.com,  with over 200 raw statistics used to calculate each player’s ratings and are weighted according to influence in the game – taking into account the area of the pitch and its outcome for each important event.

The net result of this sees Jonas Gutierrez get a perfect 10 rating, not matched by any other player this week.

Also in the European team of the week is Sunderland goalkeeper Pantilimon, he makes the eleven due to his display at The Emirates last midweek, when the Romanian keeper helped the Mackems earn a 0-0 draw against Arsenal that confirmed their survival.
