Newcastle United have named the squad that will travel to contest the Hong Kong soccer sevens at the end of May.
NUFC won the competition in 2012 and will try to repeat that when the competition runs from May 29th to the 31st.
The Newcastle squad includes Callum Roberts, Tom Heardman, Adam Laidler, Alex Gilliead, Dan Barlaser, Macaulay Gillesphey and Callum Williams.
Newcastle United feature in Group A alongside Leicester City, BC Rangers (from Hong Kong) and Singapore Cricket Club.
Peter Beardsley will oversee the travelling squad and spoke to the Shields Gazette about the forthcoming trip:
“Callum Roberts could be an exciting talent this year, he has pace, trickery and can score great goals. He’s got unbelievable ability and has already had a taste of the first team this season.
“Big Tom Heardman will probably be our main striker, and could be a very important player for us, he’s probably not an out and out goalscorer but he does a great job for the team and brings others into play.
“It’s a great competition and as it gets further on, the crowds get bigger. When the final comes around it’s an amazing experience and we would love to lift the Cup again.”
