It was heartache for both Rangers and Mike Ashley as Motherwell completed a comprehensive 6-1 aggregate thrashing of the Glasgow club.
The side that finished second bottom of the Scottish Premier stay in the top tier at Rangers’ expense after a 3-0 home win this afternoon.
A massive blow to the Ibrox club who will stay in the Scottish Championship for at least another season, whilst Mike Ashley misses out on £500,000 pocket money which would have been his bonus for the five loan players if they’d helped achieve promotion.
This afternoon saw Shane Ferguson make his first start north of the border and he lasted 55 minutes, just after Rangers conceded the first goal, making it 4-1 on aggregate.
Vuckic played the full 90 minutes but like Ferguson had limited affect on proceedings, the Slovenian picking up a yellow card in a bad tempered match.
On the final whistle a brawl resulted in two Motherwell players and one from Rangers all being sent off, the end of the game also prompting Motherwell fans to invade the pitch and goad the travelling fans, before being cleared by stewards and police.
Of the five loan players, Streete has been released, Bigirimana has two years of his contract left, whilst Mbabu, Vuckic and Ferguson have a year apiece.
Mike Ashley can now look forward to his showdown next month with the new Rangers board, at the special shareholders meeting he has forced to take place.
