Mike Ashley extends NUFC season ticket renewal deadline as falling sales hit club

Newcastle United have announced earlier today that they have extended the season ticket renewal deadline by a couple of weeks.

Supporters whose tickets were up for renewal this summer, now have until Wednesday 10 June to renew.

Many supporters took Mike Ashley’s surprise TV appearance on Sunday as evidence of a desperate attempt to arrest a massive drop in season ticket renewals.

However, today’s deadline extension suggests that the owner’s words haven’t caused a last minute stampede this week.

The fact that the renewal packs were sent out way back in March, surely tells you that if somebody was renewing then they would have done it by now.

Unless of course they were waiting for a sign of major changes for the better at the club, rather than empty words…

The fact that Mike Ashley’s interview has been followed up with nothing in the way of action, will lead most to question exactly what , if anything, will change,

With plenty of seats to choose from these days, why would you feel pressured into moving quickly now to renew?

I just hope more and  more fans will hold off getting season tickets and if possible just pay match by match if they are going to keep going.

For too long Mike Ashley has had it too easy and just maybe thousands of fans refusing to renew this summer could be just the thing to force him into belated positive action.

Although maybe you do believe the club propaganda?

Included in the club statement to season ticket holders it said:

“…supporters are advised to return their forms quickly to avoid disappointment.”

Prepare to be disappointed one way or another!
