In advance of Saturday’s game at QPR, John Carver was asked if he thought the relegation battle would go down to the final day of the season.

The Newcastle Head Coach replied that the word ‘Relegation’ isn’t even in his vocabulary.

Carver then went on to make a golfing comparison, asking us to imagine him walking down the 18th hole with the championship in his sights…

Alan Pardew’s former assistant saying that he has to just fully concentrate on Newcastle’s matches rather than the bigger picture.

Or as he puts it in his golfing analogy, he must resist the urge to ‘wave at the crowd’ – not that there is much chance of John Carver doing much waving to the Newcastle crowd judging on his recent ‘interaction’ with United supporters!

John Carver:

“That word (Relegation) is not even in my vocabulary, trust me.

“All I’m thinking about is Saturday against QPR – go and win the game and then see what happens. If I start thinking about everything else…”

I’m on the 18th:

“It’s like a golfer coming down the 18th, he’s got the championship in his sights.

“All of a sudden he starts waving to the crowd and bang, he misses a putt and loses the championship – I’m not going to be distracted.”
