Whilst John Carver has talked about Siem de Jong being involved against Spurs, the player himself says realistically he is targeting sitting on the bench against Swansea the following week, then hopefully playing a couple of games at the end of the season.

The Dutch midfielder was speaking on Wednesday night after playing 45 minutes for the reserves against Derby in a 2-0 defeat.

After such a long absence it is clear it would be foolhardy to rush de Jong back and as the player explains himself, he ha sto do a lot more work before he is ready to play at anythig like his full capacity.

Siem de Jong talking to the official club TV channel:

“I feel alright physically, I’m almost back but I feel I’m just missing that last five per cent.

“Sometimes with the explosiveness, you want to make an action but…it’s not that explosive yet. I will have to work on that in the coming days and weeks but I’m glad to have played that 45 minutes. I’ll get that with games and training, I’ve trained hard but I’m still building up.

Feeling the ball:

“Good to feel the ball and as I said, sometimes you want to do a little bit more…but I have to build that up as well and I know that I’m not there yet but I’m getting there.

“I haven’t repaid the fans a lot this seaosn so I hope to be playing a couple of games maybe at the end of the season, but I have to focus on next season and being ready for then.

Comeback target:

“I don’t know about Spurs but I hope to be back on the bench against Swansea.”
