Young Newcastle players Rolando Aarons and Freddie Woodman picked up awards last night at the annual Sport Newcastle dinner.
Woodman has excelled for Newcastle and England at junior levels and has now made a number of appearances on the bench for the United first team.
The young keeper picked up the Jack Hixon award which is in honour of the scout who discovered Alan Shearer.
Rolando Aarons was also honoured, being awarded the ‘Wor Jackie’ trophy, in recognition of his transition to the first team and early season promising displays.
Aarons yesterday came out and dismissed the rumours suggesting his failure to sign an extended contract was behind his failure to return to first team action, citing instead ongoing injury problems which John Carver stated would keep him out for another seven to ten days.
