Sunderland star can’t believe England snub

In a story that proves fact can be stranger than fiction, Sunderland striker Connor Wickham says he can’t understand why he has been overlooked by England once again.

Wickham last played for the England Under 21s back in June 2013 and now the forward who turns 22 next Tuesday, has  been ‘overlooked’ for the upcoming games against the Czech Republic and Germany.

Obviously Connor Wickham must have thought that Gareth Southgate wouldn’t have bothered checking up to find that in 28 Premier League appearances this season, the Sunderland (and ex-England) forward has only scored three goals.

Connor Wickham:

“I have never spoken to anyone from the England set-up for a while and I don’t understand what the situation is.

“If they want me to play then I am never going to say no to my country –  if they pick me, they pick me but if they don’t, I will carry on working hard here (Sunderland).”

You can almost feel the nation breathing a collective sigh of relief, with Connor Wickham not turning his back on the England teams of the future.
