News this morning that Rolando Aarons could be a surprise fitness boost for Newcastle ahead of the derby match at Sunderland on Easter Sunday.

It is five months since the winger last featured for United in the win over Liverpool at St. James’ Park.

Since then there has been much talk about the contract situation of a player who hasn’t even started a Premier League game but who looks to have massive potential.

While speculation continues on possible moves from Manchester City and Arsenal amongst others to sign the player, the Northern Echo report that their information is that Rolando Aarons has made ‘huge progress’ recently in his recovery from the hamstring problem that has ruined his season.

The newspaper state that the hope/expectation is that the winger will at least be on the bench for the derby game.

Whilst a match against Sunderland wouldn’t necessarily be ideal for a player coming back from injury to be thrown staright into. Having Aarons on the bench as a possible match saver/winner would give all Newcastle fans a big lift, with creativity a massive problem in the current line-up.

Rolando Aarons has only made three substitute appearances in the Premier League and two League Cup starts so far in his career but has scored two goals and also made the chance for Mike Williamson’s first ever goal for Newcastle…a massive achievement in itself.

There has been plenty hype surrounding the winger but it would be great to see some playing time between now and the end of the season and for Newcastle to sort out his contract situation.
