Newcastle star Massadio Haidara has undergone surgery to his right knee in Lyon.
The news has been broken by the official FIFA website, with also confirmation that he is now ruled out for the season.
Following the departure of Davide Santon in January and injury to Paul Dummett, Newcastle will have no recognised specialist left-back for the rest of the season.
Jack Colback deputised there on Saturday against Arsenal and is likely to remain there for the visit to Sunderland on Easter Sunday.
The lack of strength in depth for Newcastle meaning the team loses one of their best players in his true position.
Haidara’s operation in France continues the trend of Newcastle players having operations outside England, Cheick Tiote recently having surgery in Qatar.
