Newcastle United have the distinction of featuring in two of the three longest winning runs in the Premier League.
Looking at the teams currently in the Premier League, these are the three longest winning runs that are still ongoing.
Can we (not) play you every week:
11 Manchester City v Newcastle United
9 Arsenal v West Ham
7 Arsenal v Newcastle United
Yes, Arsenal made it 7 wins on the bounce on Saturday, the last time Newcastle avoided defeat against Arsene Wneger’s team was four years ago.
United drawing 0-0 at St. James’ Park at the start of the 2011/12 season.
However, that is only number three on the list, with Newcastle also taking the top spot.
The recent 5-0 hammering at the Etihad was the 11th Premier League match in a row where Manchester City had beaten Newcastle.
Ironically, it was United’s relegation season when they last avoided defeat, a 2-2 draw at St. James’ Park, fully 7 years ago in 2008 – though Newcastle did have one year’s rest from Man City in the Championship.
When it comes to past winning runs though, Newcastle still have a little bit to go to eclipse the all-time record.
Wigan lost 13 times in a row to Manchester United in the Premier League before finally bringing that run to an end with a 1-0 home win in April 2012.
