It was near disaster for Darl Janmaat and Tim Krul in Amsterdam on Saturday night.
Holland desperately needed a win agaiinst Turkey to help their floundering attempts to qualify for the 2016 Euros which are being held in France.
Turkey took a shock first half lead and deep into injury time after the 90 minutes were up, total disaster became all but total disaster.
Huntelaar scored an equaliser with seconds remaining but the Netherlands still face a bleak picture when looking at their qualifying group.
The Newcastle pair watched all the action from the bench, with Krul in his usual position as back-up and Janmaat restored to the bench but not the team after his exclusion since a match losing error to the Czech Republic last Autumn.
The Czech Republic are now six points clear of the Dutch and Iceland five points above Holland, with only five matches to play it could mean victory in all five is needed to win qualification.
It would be a massive blow, especially for Darykl Janmaat, if they failed to qualify. He would then have to wait for the World Cup in Russia for his next chance of a major tournament, the right-back turning 29 just after, whilst Tim Krul will be 30 by the time that Russian World Cup is played.
As for Newcastle United’s more immediate concerns, fans would have been relieved that teh United pair didn’t take part ahead of teh derby match next Sunday but it looks a knocking bet that Daryl Janmaat, and possibly Tim Krul, will get a run out in the friendly with Spain on Tuesday night.
It would be the last thing Newcastle need for either of those to be added to the injury list before United attempt to avoid the total embarrassment that would be a fifth defeat on the bounce against a hopeless Sunderland outfit.
