Newcastle striker Ayoze Perez says that Newcastle’s players simply have to concentrate on what they are doing, rather than thinking too much about the occasion as they prepare for the derby match.

The Spanish striker thinks United were a bit unlucky when defeated by that late Adam Johnson goal in December after having ‘a lot of chances’.

So will United rise to the occasion, or will it be a case of Newcastle helping Sunderland to stay up just like last season?

Ayoze Perez speaking to the Shields Gazette:

“We just need to look at ourselves, that is all, we need to train and work hard to prepare for the match. It is a big match for everybody.

“Hopefully I will be on the pitch and I need to train, work hard and try to get three points. We will try to win it, it is a big game and we all know that.”

Another opportunity:

“We had a lot of chances (in December’s derby) but we didn’t score and then they counter-attacked and scored.

“We were very disappointed but we have another opportunity to get three points.”
