He might be a late starter but Arsene Wenger has belated found a new vocation as a stand-up comedian.
The Arsenal boss has previously never really come over as a laugh a minute ype of guy, but he’s delivered some cracking one-liners ahead of the trip to St. James’ Park.

“John Carver is a permanent manager.
“The length of our permanence today is very difficult to define.”
Has the qualities?:
“The average life expectancy of a manager in England is 12 months, so it is very difficult to predict how long any of us will be in charge.
“He (John Carver) has the qualities to do the job.”
Maybe Arsene Wenger also has a future as a comedy actor because I do admire him for almost keeping a straight face when he said the above.
I would have loved it of the journalists had pushed Wenger and asked him to list these qualities that make John Carver suitable for the job.
I would have been amazed if the Arsenal manager had any idea of where Carver’s past career has taken him, apart from his involvement at Newcastle.
In the north east we are used to being patronised by those in the south east, especially journalists, but now even the rival managers are at it.
John Carver is so far out of his depth in what he is being asked to do at Newcastle, I’m surprised that we are not now only seeing the odd air bubble breaking the surface.
From the other fans I speak to, it is quite clear that Newcastle supporters have even less faith in the United coaching staff than they have in the players at the minute, which is most definitely saying something!
