Young Newcastle striker Mackenzie Heaney has scored his first goal for England.
The United forward’s first even strike for the national team was described as a ‘fantastic curling effort’.
The goal came for England Under 16s in the UEFA Development Tournament which is being hosted at St. George’s Park.
England were already one up when Heaney’s moment came, the goal described here on the official FA website;
“And despite pressure building from the Swiss, it was England who scored a second goal against the run of play as Newcastle United’s Mackenzie Heaney struck a fantastic curling effort into the far corner with goalkeeper Lars Hunn given no chance.”
Sadly, Switzerland’s pressure finally told and they scored two late first half goals before half-time, then another just after the break to run out 3-2 winners.
However, it will be a day that Newcastle United’s Mackenzie Heaney will never forget.
England now face Slovakia on Wednesday in their second match.
