Man City v Newcastle

Saturday 21 February 5.30pm Live On SKY Sports

Apart from the League Cup win earlier this season, looking for encouragement is tough work if you are a Newcastle fan.

Although John Carver has claimed that Mike Williamson will be a good match for Wilfried Bony

Everywhere else it spells doom:

Man City have won the last ten Premier League matches between the two teams.

City spent over £25m on yet another striker, Newcastle spent nothing and got rid of three defenders which has left us with only four fit ones to see out the season.

It is 15 years since Newcastle won away in the League at Man City.

It is 9 years since United even got a point in the Blue half of Manchester.

City have everybody but Milner fit, Newcastle have their usual large handful of players missing.

The other positive of course though is that football is 11 v 11 and you kick-off each game at 0-0. You have to knock the better teams out of their stride and that is exactly what Newcastle did in the League Cup and is what they need to do here today.

You can’t throw everything at them but there does have to be a threat, back in October Newcastle pressed high and within a few minutes had taken the lead through Rolando Aarons, with the then added bonus of David Silva limping off shortly after.

Even with all the other options at their disposal, Manchester City never recovered and despite conceding the majority of possession, Newcastle saw the game out relatively comfortably with Sissoko adding a second goal.

John Carver should see this as a free go without nobody expecting anything but a defeat and pick a team without fear.

My choice would be Krul, Janmaat, Coloccini, Williamson, Haidara, Colback, Abeid, Sissoko, Ameobi, Perez, Cisse
