John Carver has admitted that the pressure is on everybody at Newcastle this weekend, with an expectation that United should beat Aston Villa.
Nobody expected Newcastle to beat Man City, though that still doesn’t excuse the manner of the defeat.
However, looking at the half dozen matches that follow against the likes of Spurs, Man Utd, Arsenal, Sunderland and Everton, failing to get the three points off a dismal looking Villa would be a bleak sign of what is to come.
Nowhere will the pressure be greater than on John Carver’s shoulders and if Newcastle don’t win then that would be only one win in nine, a run that will have included games against all of the bottom three clubs (Villa, Burnley and Leicester) in the Premier League, the match against Leicester being our latest meek FA Cup surrender.
“Well these are the games where we are expected to get three points because there are two or three divisions within the division, within the Premier League.
“These are the games at home that you are expected to win, so there is a little bit of pressure on everybody.
“We draw a line under Saturday (Man City) and we’ll get ready for Aston Villa next weekend.”
