John Carver has admitted that the pressure is on everybody at Newcastle this weekend, with an expectation that United should beat Aston Villa.

Nobody expected Newcastle to beat Man City, though that still doesn’t excuse the manner of the defeat.

However, looking at the half dozen matches that follow against the likes of Spurs, Man Utd, Arsenal, Sunderland and Everton, failing to get the three points off a dismal looking Villa would be a bleak sign of what is to come.

Nowhere will the pressure be greater than on John Carver’s shoulders and if Newcastle don’t win then that would be only one win in nine, a run that will have included games against all of the bottom three clubs (Villa,  Burnley and Leicester) in the Premier League, the match against Leicester being our latest meek FA Cup surrender.

John Carver:

“Well these are the games where we are expected to get three points because there are two or three divisions within the division, within the Premier League.

“These are the games at home that you are expected to win, so there is a little bit of pressure on everybody.

“We draw a line under Saturday (Man City) and we’ll get ready for Aston Villa next weekend.”

Shouldn’t we be expected to beat everyone. Surely that’s what we always expect. However with your record so far I guess we really can’t expect with your team selections, tactics and lack of motivation to beat anyone. Not trying to be negative just realistic.

We have to get the three points or at least a very convincing draw where we were unlucky, if not just because the fixtures following it are tough then because the spirit in the team to go from not getting a result into a tough set of fixtures will make them much, much tougher.

Bills frollocks I don’t expect us to win every game.  What I do expect is more backbone shown and for us to at least give it the best shot at winning every game we can.  The fact Carver came out and said 6 points from 6 games was “not bad for this league”, shows the lack of ambition and the mentality of “we only need to worry about those at the bottom and just write off the other games”.  It clearly can’t rub off on the players too well either.

On the other hand, if we do beat Villa, that will make it 2 wins in 9, double the success rate!

  • Alsteads
