It is good news/bad news on Newcastle injuries with John Carver giving the latest update on Remy Cabella and Daryl Janmaat.
When Daryl Janmaat was forced off with a groin problem last Saturday at the Etihad, it looked as though Newcastle could be left with only three fit defenders.
However, Carver has confirmed that the Dutch defender has trained with no problem this week and that by taking him off at 5-0, it has ensured he can play against Aston Villa.
Not so good news on Remy Cabella though, after missing out at Manchester City, the Frenchman definitely misses Saturday and looks pretty certain to also miss Manchester United on Wednesday, judging by John Carver’s comments:
“Daryl (Janmaat) is fine, we actually took him off last weekend as a bit of a precaution, to protect him. He trained normally on Monday so he has had a good week.”
“He (Remy Cabella) is not available for this weekend (Villa).
“He is improving day by day but as for going up against Manchester United, he needs to be 100 per cent and so I will speak to the medical people who will fill me in.”
Relief that our creaking defence is not yet further weakened but if ever there was a match where creativity is needed it is very likely to be the crucial (considering the matches that follow) match with Villa.
