Davide Santon has claimed that his girlfriend’s rant via Twitter was simply a ‘misunderstanding’.

Speaking about his return to former club Inter Milan, the on-loan defender has also talked of ‘coming home’.

So this misunderstanding…on deadline day, Santon’s Geordie girlfriend and mother of his child, Chloe Sanderson, put the following up on Twitter;

“Just to put it out there, Davide declined Inter Milan’s first offer but was pushed out by Newcastle United to leave..

“Disgusted with how Davide has been treated, fully fit for a while now with no chance to play – a club whose only intentions are to make £££”

Speaking to the Inter Milan official website though, Santon said;

 “The Tweets? They were the result of a misunderstanding.”

Now any of you who have been in any kind of long-term relationship will recognise what I am next going to describe. You are with your partner visiting friends for a few drinks, then next thing you know is that the kitchen door is pulled closed but you can still hear the couple you are visiting, calling each other all sorts and having a right go at each other for whatever reason.

Then five minutes later they come to some kind of resolution to put an end to it because they have people round, then walk out the kitchen as though nothing has happened and everybody pretends it hasn’t happened either.

Davide Santon has just walked out of that kitchen.

The Italian defender added;

“I bring a lot more experience after these three and a half years (at Newcastle).

“In England I made about one hundred appearances (***93 in total incl sub), even though I did not play for almost nine months due to injury.”

This is my home;

“I have come here to get involved. This is my home.

“I received a call from Piero Ausilio (Inter’s Director of Football) and after a couple of hours I called back and I was happy to return.”

Santon made his debut midweek, playing 86 minutes of the cup defeat to Napoli, the only goal of the game scored injury time after he’d gone off.

Playing against Palermo at home later today, Santon and his new teammates will hope for better times ahead, Inter are having a shocking season and are currently only thirteenth in the table, eight points off the relegation zone.
