Mike Ashley has now copied at Rangers the tactics used at Newcastle to try and gag the media.

The United owner has banned numerous publications in recent years at Newcastle and now his former NUFC sidekick, now Rangers Chief Executive, has done the same at Ibrox.

The Daily Record have revealed that they’ve been sent a fax and an email saying they are no longer welcome at Rangers for press conferences or matches.

This follows the Daily Record carrying a lot of coverage of the fight to stop Ashley and his allies from continuing to control the Glasgow club.

Going out in Derek Llambias’ name the communiqué read;

“Following recent reporting by your journalists in the Daily Record, I am writing to inform you that with immediate effect the Daily Record newspaper will be banned from attending all Rangers press conferences and games at Ibrox Stadium and Murray Park.”

The Daily Record however have made the following pledge;

‘Despite today’s ban, we will continue to write the truth.

We will continue to report the ongoing crisis on and off the park without fear or favour’.

This latest move by Rangers closely follows news earlier that a London hotel had pulled out of hosting the vital meeting that Ashley and his allies are attempting to have take place over 400 miles from Ibrox. The Rangers board attempting to prevent thousands of small shareholders/fans voting and/or attending the meeting which has been called to try and oust the board.
