Shola Ameobi back at Newcastle United?

It was a story that was always going to be written whether there is an ounce of truth in it or not.

shola ameobiShola is back on Tyneside after Turkish second tier club Gaziantep BB agreed to cut short his one year contract, as the former Newcastle player wanted to leave for ‘personal reasons’.

Newcastle looking a shambles again, struggling desperately for goals, so the obvious answer is you look to recruit a 33 year old who managed five Premier League goals in his final 36 months at St. James’ Park…

A number of the newspapers have ran with this Shola back to Newcastle story today and god help us if this becomes reality.

I would rather we had Emmanuel Riviere continuing to run aimlessly around the pitch than have to put up with Shola Ameobi again.

The stories that are running claim John Carver is a big fan of Shola’s and that Alan Pardew might also be tempted.

John Carver is doing quite enough to damage any hopes he had of a permanent head coach role, without admitting to anything like that!

In the case of Pardew, that is just nonsense, at Palace he is actually going to have some money to spend and won’t have to rely on ageing out of contract players who couldn’t score goals when previously playing.

Shola struggled in a desperate Turkish second tier where the standard looked English non-league at best and played in front of a handful of people, only scoring four goals in half a season.

The only good thing if Shola Ameobi was signed up on some kind of short-term contract, is that it would prove to the few remaining doubters just how bad things have got under Mike Ashley.
