Returning Newcastle star aiming for 40 points

Returning Newcastle star Davide Santon says that Newcastle United’s target is to get to 40 point as soon as possible.

On a personal note the Italian defender was pleased to be back in first team action after nine months out, playing at Leicester in his less favoured right-back position.

Santon gives a dose of reality by talking about doing ‘our best’ at Chelsea in the next match, little wonder when the clues have won all nine Premier League matches at Stamford Bridge, scoring twenty two goals and conceding only three.

While Premier League safety is his (and Mike Ashley’s only…) target initially, speaking to the Chronicle Santon says he is hoping that United can kick on from there…;

“We’re out of the FA Cup but we have to first make sure we get 40 points as soon as possible, afterwards we can then think even more can be picked up.

“We are thinking about more than just staying in the Premier League, we have to make sure we do our best there (Chelsea) and then think about Southampton back at home.”

No pain…;

“It was a good feeling to be back but not the best feeling as you don’t want to lose.

“I am happy on a personal note, it has been difficult but my legs felt right and I did not feel any pain.”

With 27 points at the moment, it is a sobering thought that from this point last season Newcastle only picked up a further 16 points in the last five months of the season.

No wonder Davide Santon is targeting that 40 points mark initially…
