Sporting Lisbon have made winger Diego Capel available for transfer.

Newcastle were heavily linked with the player last January but nothing came of it then, with United’s only action in that transfer market to sell Yohan Cabaye.

When taking into consideration Capel is one of Sporting’s highest paid players on around £1m per year, little wonder that the press in Portugal are reporting that his club are keen to move him on.

The reports say that Sporting Lisbon would prefer to sell him immediately but would be prepared to loan him out for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent deal.

Once a star for Sevlla and helping them to win two Europa Leagues, Diego Capel has made one start for his national team back in 2010.

Having only scored 16 league goals in his entire career, you can hardly say Capel is prolific, but with Newcastle desperate for inspiration going forward then a loan deal may appeal.

Though much will depend on exactly how long players such as Rolando Aarons are really going to be out for.
