Thought I would check out what Crystal Palace fans have had to say about Alan Pardew signing Shola Ameobi.

Confirmation yesterday that the free agent had signed for the South London club with claimed interest from West Brom as well.

shola ameobiSo have Palace got a bargain or a donkey, they’ll shortly find out but what are they saying in the meantime?

I visited the holmesdale.net Palace messageboard to see what the new Alan Pardew fan club had to say;

‘Wrong Ameobi IMHO.’

‘I don’t think we need any more ‘tricky wingers’ who can’t cross. I’d take Shola over Sammie.’

‘Pardew needs him and why?’

‘Sign him as a short term solution until the summer and then buy a proper striker in the summer.’

‘No no no and f***ing no again.’

‘You got to be kidding ffs, Ameobi, he’s no better than Campbell and certainly no better than Gayle, what a waste of time and energy to sign him, what you thinking AP?’

‘A big target man, 6ft 4 who could be really effective getting knockdowns for Gayle. Not prolific but does score a decent number of goals.’

‘Well, I am beginning to think its not a bad idea. AP knows him very well, and would know how he could best make an impact.’

‘I love all these armchair experts who reckon they know more than a guy who’s managed over 700 games and played in nearly 300. If Pards thinks Ameobi, or anyone else, can do a job for us I trust his judgement. After all, he knows a hell of a lot more about managing a football club than me or anyone else on here.’

‘If it’s one thing AP knows, it’s how to judge a player, he did a fair job at Southampton and Newcastle, the latter with players not of his choice.’

‘Terrible stats, looks like he scores 1 goal in 6 games.’

‘Unless he’s going to be on the coaching staff, then no thanks!’

‘Let’s be honest here folks Ameobi is proven a `nothingy` striker. We should  take a risk on someone with potential rather than someone who has proven he isn’t up to much.’

‘Shola Ameobi, maybe Pardew is looking to join a long list of illustrious Palace managers who’ve signed up strikers who can’t score goals.’

‘Pointless signing.’

‘WOOOOOOOOAAH SHOLA AMEOBI.

’This song sounds amazing. I hope he signs.’

‘My Newcastle mate said they call him “Slower” Ameobi!’

‘Supposedly taking up a coaching role after. Now he has signed all I can do is back him!’

Maybe its just as well that Pardew had no say in purchases while he was here!

  • Brownale69

Big target man? Yikes he couldnt jump an inch!

  • wor monga

Good look to Shola…he played through injuries to help out
woeful managers when their star strikers couldn’t be bothered to turn out…and
had to fill in when better strikers were needed at the club for the last few
years…no doubt he’ll sit it out at Palace waiting for the call, and then put
himself about for the last 20mins or so, if it’s necessary…a good club servant who
deserves better from those calling themselves Toon fans.

A good club servant he wasn’t. A good club servant is a player who plays he socks off and who’s playing ability is second to none-none of which Shola was. His scoring ratio for the number of years he was here was shocking to say the least. He’s one of the most laziest players we’ve ever had – God knows what managers ever saw in him-pardew apart cis he’s a manager by job title only

At least wait to see him play, then fair enough slag him off. For once Ashley got it right, don’t let pardew pick his players.

  • Steve1221

80 goals in around 200 starts, certainly not shocking

  • DownUnderMag

A player who really divided opinions in his time here, a loyal servant to the club and utter professional….but you just know he will score the winner against us when we play Palace this season!

  • Nicolaus Copernicus

Well, I’m one person who wishes Shola well. You never know, it could turn out to be a good piece of business for both player and club.

  • Maximus Moose

If Pardew was still here Shola would have been our Star signing in this Window

Average at best if he wasn,t a local he would never have lasted .BUT he is the mackem slayer so hats off to him .just shows pardew up he might take Gouffran next .
