Thursday will see Newcastle fan Liam Sweeney laid to rest, one of two United fans caught up in the tragedy of flight MH17.

It has also been confirmed that Alan Pardew and some of his players will be in attendance at the service today, alongside family, friends and fellow fans.

The following notice appearing in the Chronicle;

SWEENEY LIAM (Newcastle). Tragically on 17th July, aged 28 years, Liam, dearest son of Angela and Barry, dearly loved brother of Victoria, Marc, Tracey, David, Lee and Ryan, dear uncle of Dylan, Harry, Olly and Archy and a dear stepson of Lesley, also a much loved grandson of David, Mavis, Mary and the late George. Liam will be sadly missed by his many friends.

Service at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Clayton Street West, Newcastle on Thursday 21st August at 10.00am, followed by interment at the West Road Cemetery at 11.15am. Friends please meet at the church or the cemetery.

 Casual clothing can be worn. All welcome back to The Milburn Reception, St James’ Park for refreshments. All enquiries to R.W. Barrett and Son Funeral Services, 379 West Road, Newcastle. Tel. (0191) 2410873. R.I.P.

As for fellow fan John Alder, sadly for his family and friends there is no immediate chance of any closure, with Dutch forensic teams still continuing to lead the painstaking challenge of identifying the remains of the other MH17 victims transported to Holland.
