Newcastle United Target Remy Cabella Plans Talks With President

Newcastle United target Remy Cabella has revealed that January was a very stressful month with Newcastle’s interest in signing him made public, the player claiming he was very relieved to get to the end of the transfer window.

Now Cabella has confirmed he will meet the Montpellier President to talk about his future – but only once the season has ended.

Speaking to AFP in France Remy Cabella said (Thanks as always to our top translator Pierre);

“I will have discussions with the President in June.

“The transfer window in January was very stressful so I was pleased when it ended.

“We have lots still to play for, so I want to finish this season strongly.”

Cabella stated in January that a major reason for not leaving in the winter window was that he couldn’t walk out on Montpellier in the middle of a relegation fight.

From the player’s comments both now and in January, it would look very likely that a summer move is in the cards once the season ends and Montpellier’s fate decided.

In that respect, while Cabella talks of the stress he was under in January, it doesn’t appear to have done his form any harm.

Since the transfer window opening at the beginning of January, Cabella and Montpellier have played six matches.

In those six games, the French club have won five and drawn one, including a spectacular win away at PSG in the Cup.

The latest match saw two goals from Cabella to help his club come out 4-2 winners away at Reims, bringing the midfielder’s goal tally to an impressive 8 in 22 matches, especially taking into account it is for a struggling team.

Thanks to this run of form, Cabella’s club have now pulled nine points clear of the relegation zone.

With Cabella’s side of the bargain largely accomplished, a few more wins will surely ensure that at the end of the season the French club’s President will allow his key player to make his move.

Whether that move is indeed to Newcastle, we will see.
