Alan Pardew ‘We Were Lacking In Attacking Areas When Shola Went Off’

Winning away to a Championship team and keeping a clean sheet, no wonder Alan Pardew was satisfied after today’s friendly.

The win at Blackpool pleased the manager but the squad limitations are already obvious.

Interviewed after the match by the club’s official TV channel, Alan Pardew revealed that a number of the players are still building up to full match fitness and he singled out Davide Santon as one in particular.

While Shola scored a third pre-season goal I think the vast majority of us know that he is not the answer when we kick off our Premier League campaign. The manager refers to lacking options in the attacking areas and unless extra players are added, there is once again a massive (over?) reliance on getting the missing Papiss Cisse and Hatem Ben Arfa onto the pitch and fully wound up.

“A real tough day in the sun, to win the game was a bonus considering the players we left behind.

Not all the players are capable of ninety minutes just yet, Davide Santon being one in particular.

Shola’s got a dead leg which might keep him out on Tuesday but I don’t see any longer than that. He looks sharp and he had a couple of other chances, we missed him when he went off because obviously we are lacking a few options in attacking areas.”
