PapissCisse54Speaking in advance of the Manchester United match, Alan Pardew has gone to some lengths to back up his currently misfiring striker, Papiss Cisse;

“I think Papiss is just a victim of the injuries, without Ben Arfa and Cabaye we’ve lacked a bit of flair and quality in the final third and of course if you’ve got that it creates moments for Papiss to finish.

He hasn’t had a lot of moments in the matches but his workrate and his commitment to the cause can’t be faulted, we continue to work with him and hopefully he’ll get the goals soon”.

Obviously with all the speculation regarding Demba Ba there will be many fans who will look at the manager’s words as another indication that Ba’s futrue could be elsewhere, while at the same time Alan Pardew looking to reinforce his relationship with Cisse following his substitution in the crucial QPR match.

Of course Cisse made his disappointment at being replaced in a very public manner but at no time disrespected Alan Pardew, indeed following the match he was at pains to say that he respected the manager’s decision and all that was important was a win for the team.

It will be interesting though to see how Newcastle line up for a very difficult game at Old Trafford and no doubt many of you will be second guessing what could happen in January based on what combination of Ba, Cisse and Shola are used.

I'd like us to go to a lower half Premiership club, someone like Stoke or Villa and get a decent performing centre-half in to play along side Mbemba.  Willo came here and did a job for us, he is just that bit older and his confidence is also shot to pieces.  We need new faces in the back line but I would feel a lot happier getting in a proven centre-half who is used to the Premiership and preferably someone who has some clout in organising his team mates!

Willo and Colo came together in January 2010.

Just after the Saylor/Colo partnership was broken up due to (guess what) injury to Saylor. We then played the Baggies in the cup and were slaughtered 4-2 as Colo played alongside Kadar (where is he now ????). Willo was brought in from Pompey (that powerhouse of English football) and was MOTM in his first game against Palace ironically.

Since those Championship days nothing has changed. Both CB's are older, by some five years, yet no more adept. A good owner would have seen the need for another CB way back in 2011. However this was Fatman so what do you expect ?

Having failed to address this issue (as we shipped goals for fun in the PL ) for so long until he bought (cheaply) a CB with potential, surely someone had the balls to tell him that we were doomed unless we sorted out our defence ??? Mbemba may be top class but what if he's injured 2nd game into the season ?

So IMHO we need 3 quality defenders at SJP and we need them NOW!!!!!!
