Newcastle Adding Premiership Quality To The Squad

The Newcastle United transfer speculation so far this summer, perfectly sums up the strengths and weaknesses for Alan Pardew.

In terms of players who may leave, on the one hand you have Championship teams after the likes of Leon Best and Nile Ranger, while it is Champions League clubs casting their eyes over the likes of Cisse, Ba, Tiote and so on.

The challenge for Pardew is to build a squad within the financial limitations imposed by Mike Ashley.

Yes every player played their part in some way last season but kidding ourselves that all the players are equally valuable won’t do anybody any good.

Naturally we support anybody who wears black & white but if the club is to continue moving forward then the quality has to be raised beyond the eight or nine real quality players already at St.James’ Park.

Last season you often looked at the bench and struggled to see anybody you would want on the pitch.

Alan Pardew’s squad was literally creaking at the seams and the added complication of the African Cup Of Nations will again be revisited, assuming that the likes of Ba, Cisse and Tiote will be hanging around these parts…

Good luck to Leon Best, Danny Guthrie, Peter Lovenkrands and maybe even Nile Ranger (providing the club get a few quid for him!) but their time is up, we need Premiership players for a Premiership squad.
