Saturday’s match certainly proved one thing to me. In Tim Krul we know we have an outstanding goalkeeping prospect but at the other end, Krul’s fellow young Dutchman, Michel Vorm, looks pretty special.

Eight clean sheets in sixteen matches tells its own story and the match at St.James’ Park backed up what I’d already seen on TV, Tim Krul has serious competition for the Netherlands’ number one shirt.

The question is, where did all the decent English goalkeepers go? In previous eras it was one of the few areas of the national team where you were spoilt for choice.

At the moment, Joe Hart is alright but is he really that good? Best of a bad bunch isn’t a great recommendation.

The recent England squad to face Spain and Sweden included….Scott Carson of Bursaspor and David Stockdale of Ipswich!

With every disrespect to those clubs, what on earth is going on? As we speak those two are playing for the team 13th in the highly respected…Turkish league and 19th in the Championship!

Our own Fraser Forster (currently on loan at Celtic) must be a very decent shout for an England future, becoming Newcastle United’s number one might prove a little tougher.
