One of countless players Newcastle have been linked with is Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace.

So the story goes, Peter Beardsley was dispatched on Monday night to watch him play only to find that he was suspended.

Whether that is true or not is another matter, Newcastle also being linked with Palace’s England Under 21 right-back, Nathaniel Clyne.

Reacting to (starting ?!!) the speculation, Palace’s manager Dougie Freedman, had this to say about his 19 year striker Wilfried Zaha:

“Wilfried is better than a Newcastle. I know the chairman won’t accept four, five or six million pounds and that rules out a lot of clubs. If you’re talking eight, nine or ten then who is going to pay that? That is the top five or six in the Premier League.

Newcastle are not the only club chasing Zaha, with Liverpool, Stoke and Queens Park Rangers all interested.”

Hmmm, Zaha might turn out to be a star of the future but how many goals would you expect an ‘eight, nine or ten million’ striking prospect to have scored in 62 games…in the lower divisions?!!

The answer is three, yes three whole goals in over sixty matches, at those valuations no wonder nobody will take Nile Ranger off our hands!
