Dealing with such a tragedy is hard enough but having to do it in such a public way must be so much worse.

The more formal organised aspects of Saturday’s tribute to Gary Speed have been postponed to the day of the home match with Swansea on Saturday 17th December.

The delay is at the request of Louise Speed who wants to be at St.James’ Park when it takes place, having already committed to attending the match at Elland Road.

The minute’s applause for Gary Speed will still take place before the match kicks off and many fans have called for supporters to wear scarves as a show of visible support.

Whatever else I’m quite sure that Newcastle fans will help make the Chelsea matchday a very special event and here’s hoping we have a match that measures up to the occasion.
