They say a picture is worth a thousand words and this time we bring you a classic image of Gary Speed in happier times, a credit to Newcastle United.

We also have the renaming of a Geordie Institution as well as photos from our fan archive with everything from ‘Bootiful’ Bernard Matthews to Steve Bruce’s birthplace.

Gary Speed RIP

Whenever we recall Gary Speed it will be as a player who always gave 100% and this photo for us sums up his passion and pride in the shirt after our FA Cup Semi-Final win against Spurs.

Geordies Aal Ower  The Place

This section that was a massively popular feature in The Mag magazine for years. What a combination we have here – a ‘Bootiful’ Bernard Matthews, Geordies in their pants and Steve Bruce’s birthplace !

Strawberry Renamed…Is Nothing Sacred??

Thanks to Tony Whittle for capturing The Strawberry’s amusing slant on the stadium debacle.

Very upset to hear the news about Gary Speed – he never gave anything less than 100% for Newcastle ( there’s another ex-NUFC player in the photo above who couldn’t say the same…Mr Maric. ). When I think of Gary Speed playing for Newcastle I’ll always remember his bullet headers, he was awesome at getting into the box and onto the end of corners. Newcastle never seemed the same team when he didn’t play. Probably his best season for us was 1999-00, don’t know why but I remember him being a key part of the team that got to the FA Cup Semi Final that year (think he may have scored the goal against Spurs that got us that replay which we won 6-1). Great striker of the ball as well and always came across as a great pro and a nice guy. Rest to his soul and strength to those he leaves behind.
