Issue 222 – 23 December 1997

Even by Newcastle’s standards this was a very strange time, in the summer we’d landed a new owner, Mr.Ashley, you might have heard of him.

Just before the change in ownership, Freddy Shepherd appointed Sam Allardyce to replace the much respected and now departed, Glenn Roeder.

To say Newcastle fans had the odd reservation about ‘Big Sam’ would be very true but as with everybody else he got  affair crack of the whip from supporters.

We were granted access to the newish manager and found him a good talker, whether you liked what he said and did is another matter!

He revealed he told Freddy that when appointed it was ‘…my way, or no way’, read on and find out what you make of Sam Allardyce’s ‘way’.
