Buggering Off For Two Grand A Week!

Issue 34 – February 1992

John Gibson is number one when it comes to the most colourful of the local north east press, in an interview he revealed why Gazza was reduced to tears.

A couple of years before we saw the tears of Italia ’90, Gazza was crying in response to the words of a Newcastle fan. A fragile character, the accusation that he was ‘buggering off to London’ for the riches(!) of two grand a week was enough to hurt him.

Ignoring what ‘riches’ means these days, the question still remains as to whether you think it was really Gazza, Beardsley, Waddle’s ‘fault’ when they left St.James’ Park for fame and fortune.
